The Warm Home Discount is a government scheme that helps low-income households with their energy bills. UK households will be able to receive a one-off discount on their energy bills if eligible.
Not everyone will be eligible for this payment scheme; however, several other schemes such as Great British Insulation, HUG, and ECO4 are available.
What is the Warm Home Discount?
The Warm Home Discount gives you a discount on your electricity bill for winter if you are on low income or vulnerable to cold-related illnesses. It came into effect in April 2011. This year it is set to open in October 2023 until 2024.
Who is entitled to the Warm Home Discount?
To be eligible, you must:
- Be on a low income
- Be in receipt of certain benefits
- Be the main bill payer at your home
How much money will I receive from the Warm Home Discount?
The amount of money you receive will depend on your income and your energy supplier. In 2023, the maximum discount is £150. The money is not paid to you – it comes through as a discount on your electricity bill.
When will I receive the £150?
The discount is paid directly to your energy supplier, so you don’t need to do anything to claim it. If you are eligible, your energy supplier will contact you to let you know how much you will receive and when you will receive it. It is paid between October and March, typically.
What if I don’t receive the discount?
If you think you should be eligible for the Warm Home Discount but you haven’t received it, you should contact your energy supplier. You can also contact the Energy Advice Helpline on 0330 822 4168
