Free Electricity from Energy Providers: How to Slash Your Summer Bills

This summer, major UK energy suppliers are launching savvy programmes to help households lower energy bills. Through clever incentives like free or discounted electricity during off‑peak periods, providers aim to reward consumers while easing pressure on the grid.

How It Works: Off‑Peak Rewards You Can Enjoy

OVO Energy’s Beyond programme offers customers two free hours of electricity every week, redeemable via selected weekday or Sunday time slots. Smart meter and Direct Debit required.

EDF’s Sunday Saver Challenge rewards customers who shift energy use away from weekday peak times (4pm–7pm) with up to 16 hours of free electricity each week. A smart meter with 30‑minute readings is essential.

British Gas’s PeakSave Sundays grants half‑price electricity (11am–4pm on Sundays), helping users save on laundry and appliance use.

E.ON Next Pledge Tariff covers free electricity on all bank holidays until March 2026, credited afterwards.

Octopus Energy’s “Saving Sessions” deliver free electricity during super‑green times. Extra usage beyond normal levels earns bill credits—often alongside fun community rewards.

Scottish Power’s Power Saver scheme provides up to 50% off electricity on weekends (11am–4pm).

Benefits & Tips

Save money easily: Just shift high‑use tasks like laundry or charging to designated times.

Support the grid: Off‑peak shifts often replace fossil fuel generation with renewable energy.

Smart meter required: Most offers need a smart meter with half‑hour or hourly readings.

How to redeem: Enrol via your provider’s app or account, then select valid time slots or participate automatically if already registered.
